Leaning on Our Community

With the holiday season coming to a close, we enter the most difficult time of the year for non-profits and other community driven organizations. Folks have already donated as they are able throughout the giving season, so it's common that organizations such as ours see a decrease in community engagement in the following months. That's why we're especially grateful to our friends at WFMZ 69 News for coming to visit and showcase our operations...

Updating Our Hours for Autumn

It's hard to believe that autumn is already upon us, but here we are! With baby season finally slowing down after an unusually voluminous second round of little squirrels, we're shifting gears to start preparing for the cold season. As usual, soon we'll be winterizing the enclosures for our beloved ambassador animals, and we're also updating our schedule to autumn hours. Beginning September 15th we will be open 7 days a week from 9am to 7pm....

New Fawn Hotline!

It's that time of year again - the forest is filled with fawns! There's a good chance you've already come across one of our little spotted deer friends this season, and we've got some critical advice and resources for you so you can help keep them safe. We've opened up a new fawn hotline that puts you directly in contact with our fawn specialist, Jessica Metzger, who has years of experience rehabilitating fawns and beyond. You can reach her at...

Help the Raccoons by Preparing Your Home

Last year we took in over 200 raccoon kits for care, many of who were orphaned because their mom made her home in someone’s attic, and pest control dispatched her (as we believe they are required to do by statute when a rabies vector species is found inside someone’s home). Now is the perfect time to prepare your home to keep out (or get rid of) unwanted critters, and to allow mama raccoons (and others) to find somewhere safe to have their...

PSA: Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza/H5N1

As you may have seen on the news or on our Facebook page, there is an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza/H5N1 (also known as the Bird Flu) in the Northeast Pennsylvania area. HPAI is largely fatal to birds, but has also resulted in deaths of other animals, including cats, foxes and, most recently, a young flamingo and a seal in a Chicago zoo. While this virus has had an impact nationwide, it has been most prevalent in Pennsylvania in...

Rehabilitation & Education

The Wilderz at Pocono Wildlife aspire to educate and guide the public towards a symbiotic relationship with wildlife. Founded in 1983, the center has grown to now intake over 4,000 animals every year. Janine Tancredi and Susan Downing, PA licensed wildlife rehabbers and the Executive Directors of The Wilderz, have become a resource for humans and animals alike, offering their wealth of knowledge and assistance to those in need.
