Huge Habitat Upgrades

by | Apr 24, 2024

We recently set out to update some of our permits through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and it turns out that since the last time we received approvals a few things have changed! Now we have 45 days to quickly complete huge habitat upgrades for our nine educational ambassador birds. We’re already hard at work and Frank Menyhart, our property manager, is at the helm once again. And this is going to be a big one, a 40-by-16 foot enclosure costing a walloping $25,000!

Our local news station, WNEP 16, paid us a visit to get the scoop.

Our director, Janine Tancredi, had this to say: “There’s construction, there’s materials, there’s labor. Luckily, we have someone on staff who is willing to do things at cost, but still, materials are expensive. There’s very specific fencing that goes into it because it needs to be safe for the birds.”

And Frank shared his thoughts: “It’s almost like building a home, but we don’t need a foundation in that sense. But it requires a crew to build it by appropriate measures and things.”

Like building a home, indeed! Our nine ambassador birds are going to be living larger than ever before in just a few short weeks. If anyone is willing to contribute to our huge habitat upgrades, please head on over to Donate Now. We would greatly appreciate any support!

Thank you to our friends at WNEP for covering this story!
